A note on "free" tiers: Pixieset's free plan takes a 15% commission on gallery print and store sales (paid plans remove it). ShootCal never takes a commission on anything. A calendar shows your time beautifully, but it has no idea you shoot at golden hour, it cannot take a client booking request, and it will not track a deposit. ShootCal now sends contracts your clients e-sign and keeps deposits in sync with Wave or QuickBooks, so the gap is smaller than it was. The difference: ShootCal doesn't process card payments (you keep your books in whatever tool you already use), and its client galleries are a separate product rather than bundled in.

If you already do your books in Wave or QuickBooks, you don't need another platform that bundles invoicing and runs your payments for a fee. Connect your accounting tool in Settings, and when a client pays an invoice, ShootCal marks that booking's deposit received, so you never update two places by hand. It only reads from your accounting tool, never changes it, and it pairs with your availability calendar so by default only deposit-paid days show as booked (you can switch to counting every event). Both Wave and QuickBooks Online work today. Your accounting stays where it is, and nothing is locked to ShootCal because everything lives in your own Google Calendar.
